Huge police presence swoops on Scots flats block as area locked down
Police have swooped in on a block of flats in Ayrshire as part of a major incident this evening. Montgomerie Street in Ardrossan has been taped off as officers patrol the area.
Multiple emergency services are on the scene, which is just minutes away from the town's ferry terminal. Pictures from the scene show a huge police presence in the area where there are several blocks of flats and a cordon in place.
At least a dozen police vehicles and around 20 officers have been spotted in attendance, according to witnesses. Two ambulances and a paramedic car are also in attendance. The nature of the incident is currently unknown.

An eyewitness told the Record: "I was out driving and couldn't believe how many police cars raced past me with their sirens on. It was absolutely unbelievable and like nothing I've ever seen before.
"I counted 10 police cars and an ambulance. They were heading towards the bottom of the town, in the direction of the ferry terminal where you get the boat to Arran.
"I assumed it must have been an incident on the ferry or something because there were so many police flying along there. But they raced to the block of flats at the bottom of Montgomerie Street, which is about a 5 minute walk from the ferry and locked down the whole area.
"It was cordoned off from the Montgomerie Street side and the Glasgow Street side, behind Albert's, the chippy. There were loads of police cars at either side of the cordon and loads of officers in hi-vis jackets.
"They were checking who was going in and out, and you could see paramedics and other officers dotted about as well. Loads of folk from neighbouring flats were out watching to see what was going on."
Another local said: "I've never seen anything like this round here. I saw one person getting put into an ambulance. I don't know what's happened, but it's obviously something really serious for there to be all of this."
