Hugh Jackman has revealed that he wasn't at all convinced by one of Logan's biggest twists.
He made his farewell outing as Wolverine earlier this year in the terrific, but heartbreaking, Logan, which ended up having a twist that managed to be hidden throughout all the marketing.
Spoilers follow after the picture, just in case…
Logan sees Wolverine come up against his clone, X-24, with Jackman playing both versions, something he had to be persuaded about.
"I was very sceptical of having X-24 being played by me. I understood what it represented and thematically the idea of battling himself, which of course is right at the core of this character that we never fully got to, so I kind of loved the externalisation of that," he told Collider.
Jackman's worry was that fans would finally see a "full berserker animalistic crazy off-the-wall Wolverine" and not know how to feel about him.
Luckily, Logan contained more than enough scenes of the 'good' version of Wolverine before this twist to ensure fans knew who to side with, especially when X-24 turned out to be a right old bastard by killing Professor X (Sir Patrick Stewart).
It was this brutal turn of events that convinced Jackman that director James Mangold had made the right choice: "When I saw the movie it's just clear, for some reason I think because he skewers Patrick Stewart in that moment the audience just sort of hates him."
Jackman added that he was surprised the X-24 twist was kept a secret until Logan's release. "I mean there's a lot of secrecy around these things and everyone tries to protect it, but it's kind of actually amazing," he noted.
"I suppose that when we were shooting it, I was shooting both parts so I played both, so if I turn up on set, everyone just knows I'm playing that."
The X-24 twist wasn't the only thing Jackman has admitted he was wrong about as, back in March, he revealed that he tried to persuade Mangold to not kill Logan off at the end of the movie.
