Hugo Millán, a 14-year-old motorbike rider, has tragically died following a crash at a junior European Talent Cup race in Spain.

Millán was involved in a serious multi-rider incident at turn five of the MotorLand Aragon circuit in Alcaniz on Sunday before being treated on track and transferred to the nearby medical centre.

MotoGP later announced in an official statement that Millán had sadly passed away from his injuries.

“Following a serious incident in European Talent Cup Race One at the MotorLand Aragón Round of the FIM CEV Repsol, it is with great sadness that we report the passing of rider Hugo Millán,” MotoGP said.

“Millán was involved in a multi-rider incident at Turn 5, with the session immediately red flagged. The Medical Intervention Vehicles arrived at the site immediately and the rider was attended to on track before being transferred to the Medical Centre at the Circuit.

“Despite the best efforts of the circuit medical staff, the Medical Centre has announced that Millán has sadly succumbed to his injuries.

“Millán was enjoying his most successful season so far in the FIM CEV Repsol, claiming several podiums to demonstrate his consistency as he competed at the front of the class.

“The FIM, FIM Europe, Dorna and MotorLand Aragón Circuit pass on our deepest condolences to Millán’s family, friends, team and loved ones.”

FIM CEV Repsol tweeted: “We are deeply saddened to report that Hugo Millán succumbed to his injuries after a crash in the HETC race. We send all our love and support to his family, team and loved ones. We will miss you Hugo.”

Millán’s death comes two months after the passing of Jason Dupasquier, the 19-year-old Swiss Moto3 rider who died in May after being involved in a crash during a qualifying session at the Italian Grand Prix.

Further tributes were paid to Millán, with Team Suzuki Ecstar writing: “Devastating news that 14 year old Hugo Millán has lost his life while racing in Aragón at the CEV cup.

“The rider from Huelva had great talent and was running 3rd in the championship. All our thoughts are with his family, friends, and team in this horribly sad time.”

Cuna de Campeones said: “We are deeply sorry to communicate that Hugo Millán has left us. We will always remember your smile, your big heart and your professionalism.

“Rest in peace, Hugo. You will always be in our hearts.”
