Hull bodyguard to billionaires and celebrities invents 'life-saving' medical device
A bodyguard from Hull has invented a "life-saving" device which he hopes will be rolled out in hospitals around the world when the latest prototypes have been tested.
Loz Moynihan, 38, who grew up in the Holderness Road area of east Hull, is a former British Royal Marines Commando and now works as a medic and security officer on superyachts for the rich and famous. His past employers include the former wealthiest woman in the UK, Kirsty Bertarelli, and he has also stood guard over Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Mick Jagger.
While undergoing medical training in South Africa, Loz noticed there could be a risk of overdosing patients while injecting them with medicines in a moving ambulance. He was astonished there was not already an anti-overdose syringe on the market and set about to invent one, which he has now patented.

The next step is to have the prototype syringes manufactured by engineers and tested thoroughly by healthcare agencies such as the FDA in the United States. Loz is crowdfunding £55,000 for what he calls a "life-saving project".
Loz said his invention has a lot of good reviews from expects in the medical field, such as expedition doctors and surgeons, and medics from the military.
He told Hull Live: "Part of my job requires to have good medical knowledge and I was training in South Africa a few years ago and I was in an ambulance with paramedics and I witnessed a few incidents with syringes while out on the road.
"I quizzed the guys I was shadowing, 'Is there not a better tool for the job?' and when they said no you just have to be careful, I thought that's not really good enough so I set about inventing something to stop that from happening."
Describing how he got into his field of work, Loz said: "I'm from Hull and I had a bit of a troubled childhood, I was involved in gangs and things like that. I was on a crossroad and I decided to join the Marines and get myself away from Hull.
"I also got involved with St Paul's Boxing Club and boxed with people like Luke Campbell and was teammates with them. I went on to be a boxing champion in the Marines. I served in Afghanistan, I served in Iraq, and the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Somalia.
"I had a very successful nine years in the Marines. I left in 2013 and went into the security world, bodyguarding and mainly working off superyachts for very rich and famous people around the world."
While working for the Bertarelli family, Loz was onboard the 96.83 metre long Vava II, the largest superyacht ever made in the UK. Last year, paparazzi took photographs of Loz while he was protecting Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, friends of his employer, in Ibiza. Loz has also worked for billionaire Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google.
Loz is seeking investors to help with the project. He believes the novel design of syringe will also potentially save the lives of recreational drug users.
