Hull Christmas lights switch-on: Mikey Lewis, fireworks, and festive fun in Queen Victoria Square
Hull's dazzling Christmas lights are set to be switched on next week by the city's rugby league sensation and 2024 Steve Prescott (MBE) Man of Steel, Mikey Lewis.
Hull KR's star half-back Mikey will join forces with the Lord Mayor Councillor Mark Collinson and a very special guest from the North Pole to kick-start the festive celebrations.
On Thursday, November 21, Queen Victoria Square will burst into life with spectacular light and sound displays, as thousands are expected to gather for the occasion. The festivities will commence at 5.30pm, with DJ Darren Lethem hosting from the balcony of Hull City Hall, introducing live acts from State of the Arts Academy.
The much-anticipated lights switch-on by Mikey, the Lord Mayor, and Father Christmas is scheduled for 6.45pm, which will feature a fireworks display over Queen Victoria Square, weather permitting.
Lord Mayor, Cllr Collinson, said: “This event signals the start of the festive season in Hull and always draws a fantastic crowd. I’m really looking forward to joining our special guests and being part of what promises to be a great night.”
At the heart of the celebration will be a majestic 50ft Norwegian Spruce, courtesy of KWL, which will be illuminated for the first time since its arrival on Friday 15 November. This event heralds the beginning of Hull's festive period, with Christmas markets set to adorn the city centre every weekend from Saturday, November 23 until Saturday, December 21.
