Hull FC’s season finale

Hull FC host Catalans Dragons in their final Super League game of the year on Saturday. The Black and Whites, enduring one of their worst-ever seasons, are currently bottom of the pile on points difference, with London Broncos edging ahead on points difference after last weekend's results. In simple terms, Hull must better London’s final round result to avoid the wooden spoon. The Broncos head to Warrington Wolves with all the permutations laid out here.

The ironic Leigh Leopards scenario

There is a possibility that Leigh Leopards could be sweating on a Hull FC victory this weekend. The Leythers go head-to-head with St Helens on Friday, with a Leigh defeat opening the door for both Leeds Rhinos and Catalans to grab the final play-off place. And should Hull KR defeat the Rhinos, then it’ll be on Hull FC to get past the French side to keep Leigh in the top six.

That would certainly be ironic given Derek Beaumont’s recent comments on Hull, with the Leigh owner saying he will ‘legally’ fight for the club to be relegated should they finish bottom. This is despite voting for the IMG system, which will see all Super League clubs for 2025 and beyond selected on a grading process. Beaumont has been outspoken about Hull all year, having first aired his criticism after the signing of current Leigh captain John Asiata.

Academy semi-final

Hull FC Academy take on St Helens in the play-off semi-final this Monday evening. It is the third consecutive year that the two sides have met at this stage, with the Saints winning both of the 2022 and 2023 affairs.

Francis Cummins, meanwhile, is looking for a big performance from his side, with the coach, who has named Jack Charles in his squad, praising their attitude this year. "Although we’ve lost a couple of games along the way, the lads have responded to those results in absolutely the right way," Cummins said. "They’ve always made sure they’ve learned from mistakes.

"A lot of people have stood up through periods when we’ve maybe been missing a few through first-team selection or injury. That’s another really pleasing factor this year—that we’ve had lots of people contributing. Maybe this is now this group’s chance to grab a little bit of history and put their names in the record books."

Full squad: Jordon Baker, Callum Barfield, Alfie Baxter, Jack Charles, Lennon Clark, Will Hutchinson, Callum Kemp, Lloyd Kemp, Elliot Middlemas, Tom Rea, Matty Shepherdson, Callum Smith, Alistair Swyer, Joe Thompson, Jon Turner, Cobie Wainhouse, Ryan Westerman, Will Wilson

Women defeated

Hull FC women were beaten 22-14 by Fryston Warriors on Sunday afternoon. The game was the Black and Whites’ final regular season fixture, with Jack Coates’ outfit now set for the League 1 play-offs.

Wheelchair beaten

Hull FC’s wheelchair side were defeated 68-10 in their final game of the season at London Roosters. The result means the Black and Whites miss out on the play-offs, finishing in fifth place in the Wheelchair Super League.
