Taylor to lead Goole

Former Hull FC prop Scott Taylor will soon be unveiled by Goole Vikings as their new head coach, as previously reported by Hull Live. Meanwhile, Danny Houghton believes that his former teammate and close friend has what it takes to make a success of the coaching game.

Of course. Taylor earned his coaching badges during his playing career and has had previous success in the amateur game at Beverley A.R.L.F.C., with the 33-year-old now ready to make a fist of it in the professional game. "It's amazing," Houghton said on Taylor's appointment. "He'll go into that wholeheartedly. That's his passion—to be a head coach.

"I know what he's like, and I know he'll make it a success. Hopefully it happens imminently for him, but over the course of his career, he'll definitely hit the top heights, as with anything he sets out to do, he puts his whole heart into it. I wish him all the best with it."

Jack Charles' Hull FC message

Young Hull FC half-back Jack Charles is already focusing on a brighter future as the 2024 season comes to a close. The 18-year-old made 17 appearances in the first-team this year and rounded off his campaign by playing for the academy in the top four play-off at St Helens.

Posting on his Instagram, he wrote: "24 seasons done, highs and lows, lots of lessons learned, grateful to have the opportunities this year and to play with legends of the sport. Can't wait to see this club back where it belongs. Just the start with plenty of work to be done."

Women make Grand Final

Hull FC Women defeated Widnes Vikings 28-14 on Sunday afternoon to book their place in the 2024 League 1 Grand Final. Jack Coates' side will play Fryston Warriors, who defeated Thatto Heath Crusaders in the other semi-final.

The Black and Whites led 22-10 at half-time, and extended that lead after the break to set up a final showdown after a strong season in the women's third tier. Once again, rising young talent Evie Sexton led the way with three tries. The teenager extended her run this year to 31 tries in just 14 games. Kayleigh Waller also scored a try brace.

Josh Griffin milestone

Former Hull FC player Josh Griffin made his 300th appearance in rugby league over the weekend. The 34-year-old was part of Wakefield Trinity's 72-6 win over Doncaster on Sunday, with the West Yorkshire club finishing the regular Championship season with 25 wins from 26 games.

Griffin, meanwhile, ran out for his 54th appearance, spread over three spells. Of course, the bulk of his career came in a seven-year stay at Hull FC, where he played 143 times. Griffin has also spent time at Salford Red Devils (55 games), Batley Bulldogs (24), Castleford Tigers (21), and Huddersfield Giants (3). He also had a spell in rugby union.

Posting on social media, Griffin said on his milestone: "I made my debut for this great club as a 17-year-old back in 2008, so it’s fitting to make my 300th for the club all these years later. Thanks to the clubs for allowing me to represent them. 300 rugby league games and 50 odd in rugby union, and hopefully a few more left in me."
