Hull KR's Reiss Butterworth lands new club as hooker prepares for exit
Hull KR hooker Reiss Butterworth has secured a new club for the 2025 season after signing a deal to play in the Championship next year. Rugby League Live can reveal that the 25-year-old has secured a deal with Sheffield Eagles for the new season and will continue his career with the Yorkshire club moving forward.
It had already been confirmed that Butterworth would be leaving Rovers at the end of the season, with the club deciding to not extend his one-year contract with the club. He had arrived at the club after an excellent year in League 1 with Dewsbury Rams, who won the league title in 2023. Butterworth was named as the competition's player of the season for good measure.
However, he has yet to make a first team appearance for the Robins, with Jez Litten and Matt Parcell holding down their positions throughout the season. Butterworth has instead played in reserve grade for the club but has also featured for London Broncos, Featherstone Rovers and Dewsbury throughout the season.

Rovers have already signed two hookers for 2025. Bill Leyland and Micky McIlorum will both arrive to replace Butterworth and Matt Parcell, who is also departing at the end of the season.
Sheffield are looking to secure a play-off spot heading into the final three rounds of the league season. The Eagles currently occupy sixth position in the table on points difference ahead of Featherstone Rovers. The two clubs have an identical record but the Eagles are currently ahead as they have scored 14 more points over the course of the season.
