Hull KR's view on Phil Lowe Way outlined in council documents
Hull Kingston Rovers' next key step in changing their postal address to Phil Lowe Way is consultation with local businesses and residents, after their submission of a request to Hull City Council.
That would be followed by an outcome decided by local councillors. A council document on the request to rename shows how the club are trying to change the area's image for the better, while paying tribute to an all-time great of the club, following his death at the age of 74.
The document states: “The Council has received a request from Hull Kingston Rovers that consideration be given to changing the name of the street that leads to the ground to the name of a former eminent player at the club. The reason for this request is that the road leading up to the club ground has few addresses upon it, save for that of Hull Kingston Rovers and the current name of the road, Poor House Lane, is not based upon a solid historical foundation, and does not reflect the character of the area or the aspirations of the local community.”

It is also noted: “Ordinarily a period of 10 years is allowed following the death of an individual prior to applying their name to a street. The reason for this is in case the esteem of the individual changes in the ensuing period. However, a precedent has been set with naming road after Roger Millward in the city within 10 years of his death.”
Hull KR chairman Paul Sewell had said in a speech at the club's awards night on Monday: "We know that, with a man like Phil Lowe, understatement is not appropriate. So we've started the process of changing our postal address from Poorhouse Lane to Phil Lowe Way. We think it's a good idea and I think you do too."
