The toilets at Hull's Paragon Station are set to undergo a £500k refurbishment to 'improve standards', TransPennine Express (TPE) have announced.

Work is set to begin this month and the makeover will see two cubicles added to the women's toilets and one to the men's. There will also be improved sinks, hand dryers and flooring fitted.

The accessible toilet will also undergo works. The refurbishment is due to be completed by Spring 2025.

While work is ongoing, temporary toilets will be outside of the station building next to the Royal Hotel. An accessible toilet will be available next to the Costa Coffee, while the waiting area will be temporarily moved into the ticket hall.

Kathryn O’Brien, Customer Experience & Transformation Director at TransPennine Express, said: “We are working hard to improve the toilets for our customers, and we ask them to bear with us while work is taking place at Hull station.

"Once work is complete, we know these changes will make a huge difference to our customers travelling on our network.”

Over recent years, the toilets and waiting room have come under scrutiny. In 2022, TransPennine Express had to issue a statement following criticism of standards from MP Diana Johnson.

The MP labelled the toilets "botched". TransPennine Express said that nearly £1.5 million had been spent on the refurbishment of the station over the years - including the toilets, which are cleaned every hour seven days a week.
