Hull to welcome Little Amal this weekend at Pearson Park family event
Hull will welcome Little Amal this weekend. The 12ft puppet of a ten-year-old Syrian refugee represents children fleeing war, violence and persecution and all those who have been displaced.
Little Amal, whose name means 'hope' in Arabic, will be at Pearson Park on Sunday (September 22). Designed and built by the creators of the puppets in hit play War Horse, she has travelled the globe since her creation in 2021 to spread a message of diversity, inclusion and peace.
The giant puppet will be guest of honour at a free, family friendly cultural event from 11am to 2pm. Little Amal will walk the park from 12noon to 12.45pm to meet and greet all those attending.

A spokesperson for Hull City Council said: "Hull is a city of sanctuary with a long tradition of welcoming people forced to leave their homes due to war, persecution, and natural disasters. We hope that as many people as possible will come along on Sunday and show the true face of Hull - people who welcome refugees and celebrate their resilience and the contributions they make to their new communities."
There will also be stands and stalls representing groups and organisations from across the city and activities including dance, song, food, arts, and crafts. Hull Freedom Chorus will perform song written especially for Little Amal;.
In addition there will be Ukrainian dance, a performance from Hull Samba, a mural created by Hull-based artist Saffi Brown and a blanket on display made by the people of Hull, representing the city and its people. Visitors can also try different arts and crafts.
Little Amal will be presented with gifts from the city upon her departure, to help her on her continuing journey around the world.
The event is free and open to all.
