Hull's seven unsolved murders as 1,000 cold cases in Britain mapped
A new interactive map has shown seven unsolved murders in Hull are among 1,000 cold cases in Britain where the victims and their families have not seen justice.
The most recent of these is Corey Dobbe who was tragically killed in 2021 next to Holderness Drain in east Hull. The prime suspect, Moise Djuku, has not been tracked down despite Crimestoppers offering a £10,000 reward for information.
Brian Jason Stock, 33, known as Jason, was found unconscious at his home in Alexandra Road off Beverley Road on November 2, 2008. It is believed he was assaulted with a flat, heavy weapon, causing serious head injuries. He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary but sadly died the same day.
John Rouse, 45, was shot dead in cold blood while showering at his home on July 30, 2008. He was found slumped on the floor of his bathroom by his traumatised mother who went to check on him after friends reported concerns.
Ronald Kemp, who allegedly owed Mr Rouse £75,000 at the time of his death, was charged with murder. He was found not guilty after two separate juries failed to reach verdicts
Michael Sutherland, age 31, sadly died after he was stabbed following what police described as a "confrontation". He had been at a party in Bransholme on New Year's Day in 1996. There was insufficient evidence to prosecute anyone.
Frederick William Barnett, 73, was stabbed to death at his home in Hopewell Road, east Hull on December 30, 1995. He had 21 cuts and bruises to his head and chest, a stab wound to his chest, and his throat was cut.
Four men: Gary Shaffi, Craig Lane, Michael Beadle and David Noble, were convicted of murder and conspiracy to rob but the conviction was overturned after an appeal in 1998. Mr Beadle had already died in prison which his family put down to stress from serving time for a crime he did not commit.
Sheik Mohamed, 29, a refugee from Sudan, was found slumped outside the Hammonds building in Ferensway on July 24, 2003, having been brutally stabbed four times, once in the heart.
The main suspect was identified by Humberside Police as Iraqi refugee Tony Karim who was seen leaving the Retro Bar in Jameson Street with Mr Mohamed at about 1.30am. But Karim is still at large, having returned to Iraq which does not have an extradition agreement with the UK.
Paying tribute to Mr Mohamed, close friend Mohamed Elmugadam said: "Sheik was a shy person who never caused any problems for anyone. He was always loved and respected by his friends and family. He came to the UK to escape the terrible violence in his own country, seeking a peaceful life."
The oldest case is that of 17-year-old Evelyn Edwards who was sadly found dead in a derelict flat in Hull on March 21 1967. There is little known except that she died from asphyxiation and may have been sexually assaulted.
