Humboldt Penguin Celebrates Sixth 'Hatch Day' at Santa Barbara Zoo

A “local celebrity, and everybody’s favorite little man” at the Santa Barbara Zoo celebrated his sixth birthday on May 24.

Footage released by the zoo shows Monty the Humboldt penguin roaming around the grounds and visiting his neighbors on his birthday. Monty runs alongside animal caretakers, meets Bangori the gorilla for the first time, and visits the tortoise home during his excursion.

“Like many of us, he has had quite the transformative year,” the Santa Barbara Zoo shared on Facebook. “He went on many adventures, brought smiles to people around the world, and even starred in a children’s book all about his life. We can’t wait to see what this year has in store for you, Monty!”
