Hundreds of Firefighters Mobilized Against Forest Fires in South of France
Hundreds of firefighters were battling forest fires covering hundreds of hectares in the Gard region of southern France on July 8, according to local authorities.
In a Facebook post, the regional fire department said 680 firefighters were on the scene in Bordezac, where a fire had burned 620 hectares. Evacuations were carried out in the villages of Bordezac and Besseges as a precaution, they said.
Another 100 firefighters were battling a fire in Generac, which had burnt 235 hectares.
The department said the fire risk would remain high over the coming days due to a spell of drought and strong winds. Credit: Sapeurs-pompiers du Gard via Storyful
