Demonstrators marched through Bordeaux, southern France, on Friday, March 17, following the French government’s decision to force through of pension reforms without a parliamentary vote.

Footage posted to Twitter on Friday evening shows protesters holding signs while marching through the city, and French police blocking the entrance to Gare St Jean, Bordeaux’s main railway station..

Similar protests were held in Paris and Dijon, where demonstrators burned effigies of Macron and other politicians.

On Thursday, the French government used a special constitutional power known as Article 49:3 to raise the retirement age in France from 62 to 64. The controversial reform has prompted nationwide strikes since January. Credit: AB7 Media via Storyful
