Hundreds of North East homes still without power after Storm Éowyn

Hundreds of North East homes are still without power after Storm Éowyn brought gusts of up to 94mph to the region on Friday.

As of 2.30pm on Friday, Northern Powergrid reported that a total of 40,967 households had been affected by outages in Northumberland, County Durham and Tyne and Wear. Most of those households have now had their power restored.

However, Northern Powergrid's live outage map continues to show widespread unplanned power outages, with areas of Northumberland and County Durham among the most affected.

Today, Northern Powergrid confirmed that workers had restored power to more than 1,200 customers since this morning, reducing the number of affected customers from 2,400 at 8am to around 1,200.

A spokesperson for the company said staff continue to do all they can to support customers who are still affected and are keeping them informed of what teams are doing to safely get their power back as soon as possible.

Northern Powergrid hope to restore power to all customers by the end of today.

In an online statement, Northern Powergrid said: "We will continue to provide welfare and support to all customers who are still without power this morning, and thanks to our local resilience partners for their support in opening local leisure centre facilities for our customers."
