Hundreds of hungry punters queue to get their hands on a free burrito to celebrate the opening of a new Mexican eatery in Nottingham city centre. Boojum opened its doors on Lower Parliament Street on Friday, September 20, bringing award-winning burritos, nachos and tacos.

To mark the opening of the brand's eighteenth outlet, Boojum gave away 300 free burritos from noon onwards, giving people a taste of its 'bold style and flavours'. The new restaurant is located in the unit of a former homeware store, between Lloyds bank and fast food restaurant Jollibee.

If the queues on the first day are anything to go by, it could be a popular choice. Speaking ahead of the opening, Boojum head of operations Rob Powell said: "Following our huge Leeds opening earlier this year, we're very excited to announce the launch date of our Nottingham restaurant. Our team has been working hard over the last few months to create our new space and we can’t wait to welcome our first customers.

"We will also be offering a multi-channel experience with our loyalty scheme and order ahead on the Boojum app and delivery available on all the major delivery platforms." The brand was established in 2007 in Belfast and now has 18 locations across Ireland and the UK.

The Nottingham restaurant is only the second in mainland UK, following the opening of a branch in Leeds in April. The brand has ambitious expansion plans and expects to open 25 new restaurants over the next five years.
