An epileptic chihuahua called Eric has been stolen from a Derbyshire lorry yard.

The dog’s owner says he is desperately worried about the missing pet’s health as it urgently needs medication.

The chihuahua was often brought into work by owner Josh Fothergill to the yard in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

Josh, 49, took his dog to work on Tuesday where the dog was stolen and driven away in a white van.

Derbyshire Police said it was investigating the theft.

Josh said his dogs were wandering around the lorry yard on an industrial estate at night time when the van approached.

He said: "I saw a van coming down the road, he turned around looking sheepish and I said 'what are you looking at?'

"I asked if he'd seen a little brown dog and he said 'yeah, up by that fence' but looking at the CCTV later you can see them running round chasing the dogs.

"They must have had him with them while I spoke to them, that was why they were so nervous,” reported the BBC.

He has owned the dog for six years and said . he was really worried about his dog’s well-being.

"With all the stress that has gone off I would not be surprised if he had had a fit," said Josh.

"He means a lot to me, like a member of the family."

He added that the dog never left his side.

“Eric is like a son, I'm going to be lost without him.”

Josh said he had checked CCTV images which he claims showed the men chasing dogs further up the road.
