Hunt for missing British man 'swept out to sea' in Ibiza as Storm Gloria batters Balearic Islands

A desperate search has been launched in Ibiza a for a British man who may have been swept out to sea as violent storms sweep Spain.

Emergency services have begun scouring the Balearic Island coast to find the 25-year-old who was last seen on Tuesday in the Sant Joan de Labritja area of the island.

Northern Ibiza has been lashed by Storm Gloria, which began wreaking havoc across the region on Monday.

At least five people have died in the devastating storm surge, which has caused major damage to beaches around Barcelona, Valencia and on the Balearic Island.

The missing 25-year-old is understood to be one of the crew of a boat which docked in the port of Ibiza.

The 112 emergency services said he went out on a tour of the island on a motorcycle. His bike has been found in Cala Portinatx.

The alert was raised by the boat's captain when the man didn’t return from his trip.

Another man is also understood to be missing in the Balearic Islands as a result of the extreme weather conditions.

On Monday, a young man disappeared while canyoning in Na Mora, in an area of ​​the Serra de Tramuntana between Sóller and Escorca .

Search work has also resumed today.
