A village post office is set to close in the coming weeks. It has been confirmed the Leysdown branch, which operates within Leysdown Pharmacy on the Isle of Sheppey, will shut in June as its postmaster has resigned.

An exact date for the closure is being finalised. In a message shared by Leysdown Parish Council, a Post Office spokesperson said: “Regrettably, the branch will be closing in June and the confirmed date will be communicated as soon as possible.

“We appreciate that communities value their local post office and we apologise to customers who may need to travel further to access services from June.” Once closed, the next nearest post office for those living in the east end of the Island will be in Minster - around five miles away.

A number of post offices can also be found in Sittingbourne, which is about 10 miles away. It is hoped the post office will not remain closed for long however, with the search to find a new operator set to begin.

A Post Office spokesperson told KentLive: “Regrettably, we have very recently received a resignation from the operator for Leysdown-on-Sea Post Office in June. The date is being finalised. The vacancy will soon be advertised on www.runapostoffice.co.uk and we would welcome interest from retailers."
