Ayo Adesina and Nick Cummings used cunning tactics to beat the Hunters - who include chief Peter Bleksley, a founder member of Scotland Yard’s undercover unit in the 1980s - on the Channel 4 show and take home an equal share of the £100,000 prize for going 28 days on the run.

Nick, a house husband, overcame plenty of self-doubt throughout to triumph and even tricked the Hunters in the best way possible at one stage by getting a friend to dress up as him, fooling them into thinking they’d got their man.

He said afterwards: “I wasn’t anything special. I did this being me - just a house husband. I may be the eccentric, but I am the one who beat the Hunters.”

Ayo began the voyage with his pal Madu Alikor but they split up halfway through following a series of arguments and went their separate ways.

He played a dangerous game throughout, which included sending tweets to taunt the Hunters, but his tactics eventually paid off.

Ayo said: “I’m very proud of myself. It’s given me confidence.”

Nick, Ayo and another pair, Anna May and Elizabeth Garnett, went into the final episode on the run but sadly the girls fell at the final hurdle and were caught.

Peter took to Twitter after the episode to congratulate the two fugitives.

He said: “Congratulations Nick and Ayo. Hunters, you couldn’t have given me more. Audience, you were great, thank you. Let’s hope #Hunted returns…”

While he remained coy about Hunted returning for a third series, at the end of the episode Channel 4 appealed for people to apply to be on the show, suggesting another run is very much likely.
