Huntsman dies after falling from horse
A huntsman visiting the South West to take part in an organised event has died after falling from his horse, an inquest opening has revealed. Terry Cartridge, from Kidderminster, was out with the Dulverton West Hunt at a farm in Devon, just over the border from Somerset.
But duing the event on on November 8, the a farmer who lived in Kidderminster, suffered a fatal spinal injury An inquest recently opened into his death at Exeter Coroner's Court. During the short hearing it was confirmed the 70-year-old was born in Stourbridge, the West Midlands, and was married and a farmer, as DevonLive reports.
Alison Longhorn, area coroner for Devon, said: "The circumstances are Mr Cartridge was visiting Devon and spending the day with Dulverton West Hunt. He was riding a horse in a rural location when his wife noticed he had fallen from the horse.
"Other riders provided CPR but sadly he was declared deceased at the scene. There are no suspicious circumstances. Presently, the medical cause of death is fractured cervical spine with spinal cord trauma."
The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing to be held at a later date.
