Hurricane Dorian Swirls Toward Bahamas and Florida

Hurricane conditions were projected to hit the northwestern Bahamas by Sunday, September 1, as Dorian strengthened overnight into Friday to a Category 2 with winds of up to 110 mph, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Friday.

The northwestern Bahamas were placed under a hurricane watch, and the NHC said the storm was expected to be near the area on Sunday.

The NHC said “life-threatening” storm surge and “devastating” hurricane-force winds could hit Florida’s east coast by early next week. The storm was projected to be near Florida late Monday, but it’s unclear where the brunt of the storm will hit, the NHC said.
