Officials in Honduras surveyed flooded roadways on Tuesday, November 17, after Iota made landfall in nearby Nicaragua as a Category 4 hurricane the previous day.
The Institution of Civil Protection in Honduras said this footage, posted on Tuesday, shows floodwater on a road in the municipality of Trojes. Officials warned residents not to pass through the floodwater.
The National Police of Honduras said the storm also downed trees and damaged structures in Trojes.
Though Hurricane Iota “rapidly” weakened overnight, the storm could still produce “catastrophic” flash flooding and mudslides across Central America, according to the National Hurricane Center. Credit: @HondurasCopeco via Storyful
