Hurricane Iota Pummels Colombian Islands Before Making Landfall in Nicaragua

At least one person was killed as Hurricane Iota pummeled the Colombian islands of Providencia and San Andres on November 16, reports said.

This footage, shared by Colombia’s Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies, shows an employee battling strong winds to launch a radiosonde to analyze the hurricane.

Colombia ended a storm warning for the islands as the storm moved west and made landfall in northeast Nicaragua late on November 16.

The hurricane was “rapidly weakening” by the early hours of November 17, the National Hurricane Center said. It was nonetheless forecast to bring life-threatening storm surges, catastrophic winds, flash flooding, and landslides to portions of Central America. Credit: Ideam Colombia via Storyful
