Hyndburn Council has announced its next three ‘Skip Days’ to help householders get rid of bulky items of rubbish.

The new initiative aimed at providing residents with a convenient way to dispose of their waste while reducing fly-tipping. The first Skip Day took place in December on Avenue Parade, Accrington.

The next will be on Saturday February 1 between 8:30am and 11:00am between South Street and Clement Street in Accrington’s Barnfield Ward. It will be followed by two in Great Harwood.

On Saturday February 8 from 8:30 to 11:00am the community skip will be located on the junction of Lomax Street and St Hubert’s Road, and on the February 15 it will be on the junction of Masefield Close and Wordsworth Drive. SUEZ recycling and recovery UK are providing the skips.

Barnfield ward’s Cllr Clare McKenna said: “I am delighted to host the council’s next community skip day in Barnfield Ward. “The skip will be available for residents to use to dispose of any additional general waste they may have and is an important resource for those unable to get to the waste and recycling centre at Whinney Hill.”

Netherton ward’s Cllr Jodi Clements said: “We are glad to be available to provide two community skip days in Great Harwood in February, and we hope that residents will make use of them. Councillors will be there on the day helping out and we encourage residents to get involved.

“We encourage any litter picking groups to make use of the these skips on these dates.” In addition to Skip Days, the Council offers a free bulky waste collection service, allowing residents to have up to six items of bulky waste collected for free each month which can be arranged through the Hyndburn Council website.

The council’s environment boss Cllr Stewart Eaves said: “We were thrilled with the positive response to our first Skip Day and are excited to continue this initiative with three more confirmed dates. Providing residents with accessible waste disposal options helps in our fight against fly-tipping and maintaining the cleanliness of our streets.”
