Anne Hegerty was a huge hit in the I'm a Celebrity camp, but The Chase star admits she wishes she'd taken her agent's advice and visited a zoo beforehand to acclimatise to all creepy crawlies she had to live with in the jungle.

Speaking to Prima.co.uk on the red carpet at the 2019 National TV Awards last night (January 22), Anne said: "Yeah [there were things I wasn't prepared for]...

"My agent said, 'Why don't we go to the zoo and have some desensitisation sessions with creepy crawlies?' and I was like, 'No, no I haven't got time, I'll just wing it'. And, yeah, you know, that would have been a good idea. And maybe doing a bit of camping might of helped too."

But Anne said that meeting her campmates – including Nick Knowles, Emily Atack and John Barrowman – was the best part of her experience, and despite all the scary jungle critters, she was very glad to have done it.

Discussing other enjoyable moments on the show that didn't make the cut, she continued: "I was surprised they didn’t show more of Nick making things because he was brilliant at that.

"At inventing things, and just coming up with new ways of clothing clothes. Inventing drying racks, they didn't show any of that. He's very good at useful stuff."

All the I'm a Celeb stars – who accepted the show's prize on stage for the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award last night – still stay in touch via WhatsApp, with Hegerty adding: "And our families have all got their own WhatsApp group, too, because they're always chatting to each other!"

But The Chase contestants be warned – although she came across as a bit of a softy on I'm a Celeb, she should still be feared on the ITV quiz show.

"The thing is on The Chase, you don't get showered with creepy crawlies. But what they do want is you to be able to answer the questions, and I can answer the questions... So they need to fear that," she said.

And as for taking part on any other reality TV shows such as Dancing on Ice, Anne added: "I'm not really looking for anything more... I've always wanted to learn how to ice skate… I don't think I can say anymore than that!"

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! airs on ITV.
