Ice rink gliding back to iconic Weston-Super-Mare venue for Christmas season
It's Christmas come early for Weston-Super-Mare as a seaside ice skating rink is set to make its return next month. Icescape Tropicana - which uses real ice- will be reopening on Friday, November 1 and will be welcoming aspiring Peggy Fleming's, Tonya Harding's or Torvill and Dean's until Sunday, January 5, 2025.
The ice rink, which can host up to 400 skaters, will offer a range of unique experiences including disco sessions, quiet sessions, and the ever popular parent-toddler sessions. Jamie Dann, Icescape Operations Director, said: “We have so many different skate session offerings available this year and there is something for every skater.
"Icescape Tropicana is now a Christmas tradition for so many friends and families in the South West, it is great to be back again this winter.”

Parent-toddler sessions will allow kids under five to skate for free alongside a parent's ticket. Even babies in pushchairs are allowed on the ice! The popular sessions might also include a visit from Icescape Tropicana's mascot Pippen the Penguin.
The ice rink will also be embracing Friday night fever with Friday-night disco sessions. On the other end of the spectrum, skaters who can do without any music might be more interested in the quiet sessions. During Skate to Donate sessions, ticket donations will go to charity.
Cllr Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, said: “Icescape is a welcome fixture in North Somerset’s festive calendar, and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to accommodate it coming back to the Tropicana this year. Last winter, around 80,000 visitors enjoyed the attraction, and I’m sure it will continue to draw the crowds again this year.
“We’ve got exciting plans for the Tropicana as part of our programme to improve Weston, made possible thanks to our successful bid for £20m funding from the UK government. We’re looking to enhance existing facilities, boost capacity and restore the venue’s status as a nationally renowned, multi-use entertainment space. The planning application is due to be submitted this month, and we’re looking to start work soon after it’s been approved. Our project team has worked hard to be able to accommodate Icescape this winter, with surveys and preparation work continuing without causing any delay to the overall project.”
With the festive season burning a hole in most of our pockets, skaters will be delighted to note that you get a 20% discount if you book before November. Booking at least the day before also ensures free parking on the seafront- so you can park your wheels easy before you get on your skates.
