Ice Shards Glide Over Lake Superior Shore

Ice shards were filmed gliding and piling up on the shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota on February 16 and 17.

In footage shared by Ken Greshowak, the ice shards can be seen colliding, overlapping, and being pulled apart at McQuade Small Craft Harbor in Duluth.

According to National Geographic when conditions are right, “ice sheets that form on bodies of water in winter will break, and the motion of the wind will cause the pieces to slide and stack, causing ethereal, hypnotic scenes.” Credit: Ken Greshowak via Storyful
