'Iconic' Glasgow west end pub 'refreshed' as it reopens under new owner
A Glasgow west end pub described as an 'institution' has reopened under new management.
The Drake in Woodlands has undergone a "mini refurbishment" this month before reopening last week after being sold in the first week of January 2025. The pub is now under the ownership of Merchant Pubs & Bars, which also runs BAaD (Barras Art & Design) and Blackfriars.
The "mini refurbishment" included the installation of HD TV screens showing Sky Sports and new art work on the walls, the firm said. There's also a new food menu with a Sunday roast launched, with options including roast beef, ham or veggie wellington.

The set course Sunday menu is £32.50 for 2 courses. The new menu includes unusual additions including a venison hotdog with truffle mayo and a 'Drake bacon mac burger', consisting of both a beef and a mac & cheese patty.
There are also pub classics such as sausage and mash and fish and chips. The new draught range includes Birra Moretti, Cruz Campo, Beavertown Neck Oil, Krombacher and Starnberger. There's also wine and classic cocktails.
Graeme Moffat, area manager for Merchant Pubs & Bars, described the purchase as a "no brainer." He said: “We’ve had our eyes on The Drake for a while as it’s such an iconic pub in Glasgow.
"We’ve refreshed the place, installed new HD TVs, got the sports back as well as an exciting new draught range and food menu. We reopened at the tail end of last week and the feedback from locals has been very encouraging”
Spokesperson Courtney Flynn said: “The Drake is a Glasgow institution and we’re super delighted to be able to get going with putting our own stamp on it. Similarly, Rascal has been extremely well received and built an impressive cult following."
The Drake is open every day from midday, serving food until late. Menus can be viewed here.
