Idlib Man Who Spent 24 Hours Under Rubble Rescued

A man was rescued from under the rubble of a building in Idlib more than 24 hours after a massive earthquake caused widespread damage to the area on February 6, the Syria Civil Defence said.

Syrian health authorities said at least 1,262 were dead in the wake of the earthquake.

However, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) gave a higher figure, saying 1,331 people had died in areas controlled by the Syrian government, and a further 1,420 in rebel-held areas.

Speaking on Wednesday, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the latest figure for confirmed deaths in his country was 8,574. Credit: Syria Civil Defence via Storyful
