An idyllic golf club not too far from Glasgow has just been named as having the best fish tea in the country.

The winners of the Scottish Fish and Chip Awards 2024 were recently announced and Hayston Golf Club in Kirkintilloch has been picked out as the place to go for a traditional fish tea.

The picturesque James Braid designed course on Campsie Road is not only a destination for golfers but now will see people heading there to try their famous chippy dish, which includes a special Glasgow ingredient – batter made with Tennent's lager.

The special deal, which is just £25 for two includes the fresh beer battered fish & chips – Scottish haddock in crisp beer batter – served with chips, homemade tartare sauce, lemon, and of course, bread and butter.

And to follow, a homemade strawberry tart as well as tea and coffee.

Proud of the win, head chef Iain Murphy said: "We are delighted and humbled to accept the best fish tea in Scotland Award. It’s a really proud moment for us and great to see the teams hard work being recognised. We’d like to thank all our customers and all those who took the time to vote.”

The team thanked their "fantastic fish supplier" Bernard Corrigan Ltd. adding that they couldn't have won the award without them providing them with excellent fresh Scottish fish, as well as Tennent's Lager, as their lager definitely helps in making their much-loved crisp batter.

Front of house and bar manager, Caitlin Houston, added: “We are delighted to have been awarded best fish tea in Scotland, this is a great achievement for the team & golf club. We are excited to welcome people in for the best fish tea”

Captain of Hayston, Grahame Wylie, said: “As captain of Hayston Golf club I am delighted that the team’s hard work has been recognised. It’s fantastic to see our bar & catering side of the club on the map.”
