The idyllic Derbyshire town of Bakewell has been named one of the best UK holiday destinations to escape to for 48 hours after a study revealed the nation's favourite spots.
The holiday experts at Holiday Cottages reckon that Bakewell is the number one spot for Brits aiming to get away for a short weekend break. The list details six ideal locations for those looking for a 48-hour weekend escape, as well as what to do and where to stay.
At the top of the list is Derbyshire's very own Peak District town, Bakewell, which is just an hour away from Derby. This comes as Holiday Cottages has seen a rise of 7% in short stays this year in the Derbyshire town, indicating that it is a popular spot for weekend getaways. The company recommended that visitors of the picturesque town should start their trip by exploring the riverside walks found in the centre of the town, as well as visiting the Bakewell Bridge otherwise known as Weir Bridge, previously famous for it's love locks that were recently removed.
The list also details that visitors of the town should visit the famous Chatsworth House, which is just a short drive away from the town. Furthermore, why not try out some Bakewell Tarts, one of the most famous food items to come out of Derbyshire.
The list also states that it is a perfect place for "outdoor enthusiasts" as there are a number of nearby trails, such as the Monsal Trail, which covers 8.5 miles of the Peak District's stunning landscape.
The list also details other locations ideal for a 48-hour staycation, such as Ambleside in Cumbria, Dartmouth in Devon, Aldeburgh in Suffork, St Davids in Wales and Knaresborough in Yorkshire.
