IGN Aims to Fill E3 Gaming Event Void With In-Person Fan Convention
Just over a year after the nail was put in E3’s coffin, media company IGN has revealed plans to launch its own in-person “consumer experience” targeting the gaming community.
Taking place early this June in Los Angeles, the inaugural IGN Live three-day event aims to “unite the best of gaming and entertainment with creators, developers, licensors, publishers, journalists and enthusiasts from around the world, to experience beloved brands and franchises in new and meaningful ways.”

IGN promises event-goers access to “world-class talent, parties, networking events and unique attractions” from video game and entertainment exhibitors, along with the chance to participate in tournaments and watch live presentations of IGN shows.
IGN notes it’s targeted June, which was when the now-shuttered gaming trade event E3 took place, as the ideal month for this new consumer event, as it’s been the traditional time for gaming publishers and developers to unveil new titles and reveal information about upcoming games.
In addition to its in-person experience, IGN Live will stream via gaming console and mobile apps, IGN’s digital network, YouTube, connected TV services and IGN’s social media accounts. In 2020, IGN launched its virtual video game event Summer of Gaming, which will have an in-person component for its fifth installment this summer at IGN Live.
A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales for IGN Live will be donated to charity through Humble Bundle.
“IGN Live is aligned with IGN’s mission and history. For nearly three decades, we have fueled fandoms that drive the most diverse and beloved games and entertainment into the zeitgeist,” IGN Entertainment president Yael Prough said in a statement. “Fans and partners have voiced their demand for a physical space where the community can come together in person to celebrate the industry’s most exciting innovations. L.A. was an obvious choice. It is home to some of the world’s top gaming and entertainment talent and creators. We are already experiencing the enthusiasm from publishers, partners and leadership in Los Angeles who look forward to delivering a world-class experience to the IGN community in DTLA at IGN Live 2024.”
City of Los Angeles chief tourism officer Doane Liu added: “L.A. continues to offer world-leading experiences for businesses and consumers alike. We have played host to many unforgettable gaming and industry events for thousands of attendees in June throughout the years. We look forward to continuing this legacy with IGN in June of 2024 and for years to come.”
