A motorcyclist is in a critical condition in hospital following a crash with a car on a busy east London a-road.

The 26-year-old was seriously injured in the collision on the A12 in Ilford just before 7am on Tuesday.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he remained on Wednesday in a “critical but stable” condition, police said.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.

The A12, also known as Eastern Avenue, was closed for several hours on Tuesday morning as emergency service workers attended the scene, causing queues in both directions.

Pictures showed a cordon blocking off the road, with a group of police officers scouring the scene.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the crash, which took place near the junction with Quebec Road.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call investigating officers from the Roads and Transport Policing Command based at Chadwell Heath on 020 8345 4847.
