I'm A Celeb 2016: Martin Roberts' wife was warned about his emotional breakdown

Martin Roberts hasn’t had the best of times in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle, with the presenter being reduced to tears after a run in with fellow campmate, Danny Baker.

Danny has apologised to Martin twice for his behaviour towards the Homes Under The Hammer presenter, and viewers were left heartbroken when Martin was filmed breaking down in tears during Sunday night’s episode.

Now Martin’s wife, Kirsty, has revealed that concerned ITV producers warned her about his breakdown before the episode aired as they knew that his two young children would be watching.

Speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain, Kirsty explained: “I have to say, Sunday was quite difficult. He’s had a really intense time and it was one thing after another.

“To be fair, I had a call from one of the producers from Australia. They did give me the heads up to say that he’s been upset as she knew the children would be watching but even so, it was quite emotional.

“When you’re so far away, you just want to step into the TV and give him a hug.

“He’s quite sensitive, I would say that.”

Speaking about his clash with Danny, Kirsty added: “Clearly the producers wanted to create a rivalry between him and Danny.

“He showed last night that he will be a team player. I think you can prepare yourself for life in the jungle but the chemistry with other people is hard”

Kirsty and Martin’s children, Megan and Scott, left a good luck message for their dad at the end of Kirsty’s interview, with Scott saying: “Keep trying and don’t give up, we love you!”
