I’m A Celebrity 2016: Craig Charles Set For Return Two Years After Brother’s Tragic Death

Craig Charles is reportedly set to make a dramatic return to the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here jungle this year after he was forced to withdraw as a camp mate during a previous appearance on the ITV show.

The former Coronation Street star flew out to Australia in 2014 but departed from the jungle after receiving the tragic news that his brother Dean had passed away following a suspected heart attack.

Craig was four days into the series when producers broke the devastating news, which prompted him to return to the UK, as he told the other celebs: “I’m out of here. My brother died. I’ve got things to sort out.”

Now, two years on, ITV bosses are reportedly keen to get Craig, 52, back in the camp for this year’s series after his filming schedule for Red Dwarf clashed with the 2015 series.

A source told The Sun: “He was a popular camp mate in the short time he was in and bosses know he would have been a great contestant if he’d stayed on the show.

“They know that he was enjoying getting into camp life but sadly, due to circumstances beyond his control, he was forced to leave and go home to his family.

“They wanted to get him back on the show last year but he was already committed to filming brand new episodes of BBC Two’s sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf, which will air next month.”

And while the TV actor hasn’t made a decision on whether to return to the jungle yet, show bosses are reportedly prepared to give him “an offer that he might not be able to refuse” as part of their persuasion package.

Other rumoured names for I’m A Celeb 2016 include Made In Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews and Lauren Hutton, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, Cheryl’s ex Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, Michael Jackson’s former doctor Conrad Murray, Absolutely Fabulous star Helen Lederer, Team GB Olympic gymnast Louis Smith, as well as soap star stunners Fiona Wade and Olympia Valance - so it could turn out to be quite the series!

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here will return to ITV with Ant and Dec in November.
