A first look at Matt Hancock's latest I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! trial shows the controversial campmate gasping for breath as he is dragged down into a water-filled cage.

Hancock takes on the bushtucker trial entitled Tentacles of Terror in Thursday's episode of the ITV show, where he will be trapped inside an octopus-like cage in a pool of water and dragged beneath the surface to search for stars.

Viewers saw Hancock told at the end of Wednesday's episode that the public had voted for him to take on the trial, surprising nobody in camp - including the MP himself.

After his casting in the reality series was revealed, people outraged at the disgraced former health secretary and elected MP going into the jungle vowed to vote for him to take on every one of the gruelling, often disgusting trials.

In a clip of the trial which will be shown tonight, Hancock struggles for breath as he briefly comes up for air and looks thoroughly miserable as the cage then starts to drag him down beneath the water again.

As he pushes past various creatures in the water to grab stars, host Dec comments: "You have to hold your breath for a long time, don't you?"

Giving him some encouragement as he comes up for air, Dec adds: "Good going, this. Down you go again. Your airhole gets smaller."

But Ant quips: "What did you call it?"

Dec replies: "AIR-hole."

Fans of the show saw Hancock make his entry into camp in Wednesday's show alongside another new contestant, Seann Walsh.

The other celebrity campmates were visibly shocked to see Hancock in the jungle, as Charlene White grilled him on his reasons for doing the show and said: "I can imagine this has not gone down well at home."

Boy George looked emotional as he told Scarlette Douglas: "You know, beginning of the pandemic my mum was in hospital. I wasn’t allowed to see her. I thought she was going to die. I was tweeting Greenwich hospital going, ‘Please look after my mum.’ I used my name, I was like ‘Please look after my mum.’

"And they did, she was fine… I feel like, I don’t want to be sitting here like I’m having fun with him. It’s difficult for me because, you know, had something happened, if my mum had gone, I wouldn’t be here now. I would have gone when he walked in."

He later told the Bush Telegraph: "If I had lost my mum, I would go. And I feel a little bit selfish, you know, just kind of…everyone’s so nice to him and I was like Jesus, what we gonna do? I don’t want to spoil this experience for myself. I’m not good at hiding what I feel. Especially when it’s something so strong."

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
