Watch: Victoria Derbyshire relives embarrassing live TV gaffe

If you’ve recently suffered an embarrassing work Zoom call that you can’t stop cringing over, just be glad you’re not Victoria Derbyshire.

The journalist and broadcaster has been regaling the I’m A Celebrity camp with the tale of that infamous Jeremy Hunt slip of the tongue where she accidentally replaced the first letter of his name with a “C” on live TV.

Derbyshire said: “I mispronounced his name, it was excruciating, it was awful, I buried my head in my hands.”

The error happened last summer during Derbyshire’s self-titled BBC current affairs daytime show, during a debate over who should be the next Tory leader.

She said to Conservative MP Steve Brine: “You say the man you are backing, Jeremy C***...”

“I’m so sorry, Jeremy Hunt. I’ve never said that before in my life.

“It’s normally men who say that so I really, really want to apologise.”

She told the camp: “What I should have done is just apologised and moved on, but I went, ‘oh my god I’m so sorry’ and made it so much worse.”

Derbyshire wasn’t the only campmate to have suffered a bad day at work, as the others shared.

Ruthie Henshall told a story about working with Mickey Rooney on the stage show Crazy For You and how he had offered her a remedy for a dodgy stomach which made her worse.

She said: “I got to a number called Stiff Upper Lip and thought I’m either going to be sick or poo myself on stage, so I ran off stage.

“Both ends came off, but the projectile vomit went first.”

Sir Mo Farah shared that he’d once been tripped during an international championship race and started running the wrong way round the track when he got up.

And Radio 1 DJ Jordan North told the story of how he’d been asked not to bring up the name of Yungblud’s very recent ex, Halsey, in an interview – but ended up introducing him as Halsey by accident.

I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! continues tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV.
