Thanks to a diet of rice, beans and, in some instances, blended fish eyeballs, the contestants on I’m A Celebrity have lost as much as four stone between them in just a week.

Hot and humid conditions in the Australian jungle have also contributed to the weight loss, according to The Sun.

A source told the paper: “It’s been a really tough week for the campmates, especially with the lack of food and hunger. They have noticed their body weight falling off.

“We believe between them the campmates have lost around four stone. What the celebs are eating is very healthy, from veg to meat protein and fish and that is absorbed quickly by the body.

“Medic Bob encourages them to drink three litres of water a day. It not only hydrates them but also helps to fill them up.

“The weight loss doesn’t do any permanent damage, and most pile it back on within three weeks, especially in the build-up to Christmas. The celebs see it as a detox, although at the time it’s very difficult as they have nothing to distract from the hunger.”

While on the show, contestants including former football manager Harry Redknapp and Emily Atack have remarked on their meagre diet, while The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has admitted she’s ‘struggling’.

“I’ve struggled to eat the food in the camp. I don’t think I’ve really ate anything,” said Redknapp.

Atack, meanwhile, speaking to Noel Edmonds, said that her clothes no longer fit.

“These were tight when I came in here,” she said. “I just want to lose a bit of weight so that when I get home and it’s Christmas I have a bit of room and can put it back on again. I love food so much, I love cheese and champagne and salads, fries, yum.”
