This year's instalment of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! may have only started a week ago, but it's already subjected its famous contestants to one of the show's most disgusting trials yet.

In tonight's episode of the ITV reality show (Sunday, November 22), the women of the camp – having lost yesterday's live trial – were subjected to 'Bar-Baric,' in which they had to escape creepy crawly and offal-filled chambers to retrieve keys and, in turn, earn meals for the whole gang.

"I have to tell you, I'm absolutely terrified at this moment in time. I so wish we didn't have to do this," former Coronation Street star Beverley Callard admitted.

"It's going to be horrible, we know that, but we've worked out that if we don't look at the horrible things and we focus on the task, we can get through it," broadcaster Victoria Derbyshire said, desperately trying to boost morale as she suggested that they pretend they're going on a girl's night out to try and take their minds off their nerves.

"We're gonna smash it," author Giovanna Fletcher added, as paralympian Hollie Arnold echoed: "We'll smash it as a team."

Once there, hosts Ant & Dec explained the rules, spelling out that the sixth person is likely to receive the worst of it as they'll be in the chambers the longest. Victoria wasted no time volunteering to be last, while Giovanna opted to be first.

After escaping the first chamber, Giovanna plunged her hand into a box containing a tarantula and unscrewed the stars, bagging two meals. Ruthie Henshall was up next, and braved a box full of earthworms.

Beverley was third, and ran to the boxes as fish guts and slime descended on EastEnders' Jessica Plummer, Hollie and Victoria. Then, Jessica came up against a box filled with rats, while Hollie faced a bunch of snakes.

"This is why I went into journalism," Victoria laughed after all of them except herself had escaped the chambers and earned their two stars, as some of the others joked about how much they all stank - something that was proven when they returned back to the castle and the men recoiled in horror.

“A sombre mood tonight, the girls found the trial quite difficult and it’s a strange atmosphere," presenter Vernon Kay explained. "It's the first time we've had this kind of thing."

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! continues tomorrow night (Monday, November 23) at 9pm on ITV.
