GK Barry was left in tears and declaring she was 'going to die' as she topped the first public vote of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here's new series and will now face a terrifying trial.

Social media star, podcast host and new Loose Women panellist GK, went into Sunday's launch episode on ITV as the second favourite to win, having closed in on early frontrunner Danny Jones. On the I'm A Celebrity 2024 line-up along with Danny and other famous faces like Coleen Rooney, Tulisa and Alan Halsall, GK reacted in horror at various points during the 105 minute episode, not least when she and Loose Women colleague Jane Moore had to battle against their co-stars in a race to determine who would be the first Camp Leaders in the jungle this year. After she had to put her hand in a box of creepy crawlies, the 25-year-old shouted: "‘It was a nightmare, I swear to god!"

Given that I'm A Celebrity viewers are known for being rather cruel when it comes to choosing who should do the trials, GK's struggle at adapting to jungle life put her well in the frame to be picked for Vile Volcano, a frightening challenge that has been teased by Ant and Dec earlier on in the programme, as the public vote opened.

In the end it came down to GK and Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough, with GK muttering: "Let it be Dean, let it be Dean! before the hosts called her name, leading to a look of horror on her face, as she shouted: "I'm going to die!" Fellow Loose Women star Jane quickly got up to comfort her, taking her face in her hands and remarking: "You can do this!"

Not looking reassured at all, GK again shouted: "I'm going to die!" before tears started to fall and Jane added: "Listen, you'll be fine and if you don't get a single star, it doesn't matter."
