A top fitness coach has urged people to take up one exercise that will 'change your life' and improve your sleep.

Speaking to Dr Rangan Chatterjee, fitness coach Lawrence van Lingen revealed how combining two things can have a massive impact on your life: "I can tell you now, if you normalise your breathing pattern and you backwards walk, your life will change and you need to understand that change is coming."

Despite the exercise sounding simple to most, the fitness coach explained in detail how to get the best results: "So in this notion of hip extension based gait, what we want to do is basically still be in full contact with the ground once your knee gets behind your hip, and most people have already picked their foot up at that stage or certainly be heel off the ground."

He continued: "So, on one level backward walking, when you take a step behind you, you put your heel down on the ground and you learn to trust the weight of your body through that leg and that's what is missing in your running, you're basically just putting in a good movement pattern and teaching your brain to teach your leg and knee behind your hip and your whole weight through your body and so your brain says 'oh that's something I can trust and relate to'."

The expert also added that it will help people 'deal with stress and sleep better'

Lawrence went even further and claimed that after three years of practicing the exercise and breathing routine, people will see thir lives change.

And, podcast host, Dr Chatterjee claimed that he had tried out the health tip for himself whilst holidaying in Kenya over the summer where he would go on a ten minutes backwards walk every morning and said: "I just feel really good and calm."
