A man from Dallas is set to embark on a long journey to London with the sole purpose of sampling Greggs for the first time.

He took to Reddit to announce his UK trip planned for December, where he intends to spend a weekend in the capital. However, the highlight of his visit appears to be the culinary choice between a steak bake or a sausage roll from the famed bakery chain.

Eager to make the most of his foodie quest, he sought advice on Reddit about which Greggs delicacies he should try and the best locations to visit.

His post read: "Flying to London for a weekend to eat at Greggs for the first time. Can someone give me good locations to try?"

Brits were quick to offer their recommendations, suggesting various stores and treats he should indulge in. Some were astonished by the lengths he was going just to sample a taste of Greggs.

Responding to comments about the extensive travel for a bakery visit, the man explained: "I had a lot of airline miles and wanted to do something fun, and a curry bake sounded like just the thing."

His post sparked a series of humorous replies, with one user writing: "I was just thinking of popping out to the Philippines for a Taco Bell." Another quipped: "This is the ultimate Greggs appreciation."

Hidden among the banter was some practical suggestions, thankfully. One recommended a tip to visit Newcastle for an authentic Greggs experience, joking that it would help him "save a fortune".

Another person added their two pence worth, saying: "If you're looking for the closest, there's Staines, Southall, Uxbridge and Hounslow. There's a really small one at a petrol station on the Southern Perimeter Road, although it might not have everything."
