'I'm a GP - I eat the same thing for lunch every day and it aids weight loss'

Have you ever found yourself nipping out to get food on your lunch break, only to opt for the unhealthy option every time?

When you're hungry, it's easy to be tempted by all the delicious things you walk past in the shops, but preparing food to take to work is always the best way - for your waist and wallet. A GP has found the perfect lunch, which is so good he has it every single day.

And it's not only super simple and cheap to make - it has all the nutrients he needs, and is also good for weight loss because it keeps you full and stops you snacking. NHS doctor Amir Khan, who has appeared on ITV's Lorraine and Good Morning Britain, recently took to TikTok to share his lunch tip with his 52.9k followers.

Explaining why he takes the same lunch to work most days, he said: "It stops me from snacking and reduces the risk of me heading to reception to get chocolates that have been brought in my a patient." The night before work Dr Khan prepares a salad which has everything he needs to feel full and satisfied.

He shared: "It's got red onions in there, which are great for gut health and red onions in particular have a plant compound called anthocyanin in them, which have been shown to be heart healthy. I've also got some chopped cucumber in there, which is a very good source of vitamin K, needed for healthy bones. There's fibre in the skin of the cucumber which is good for my gut health and cucumbers also contain a plant compound called cucurbitacin, which might have some anti-cancer properties."

Also in the salad is chopped tomatoes, which Dr Khan explained are "high in antioxidants; lycopene and beta-carotene", which he said can help prevent damage done by free radicals to your cells. They can also help boost your immune system, as they are high in vitamin C.

To add some protein, the doctor adds chickpeas to his salad, which is also full of fibre, which he said will keep him fuller for longer, which means "less snacking". As a dressing, Dr Khan added a "glug of olive oil" which is "high is monounsaturated fats", as well as the juice of a lime, which is a "great source of vitamin C".

After eating his salad, Dr Khan has some nuts, such as walnuts, which have "great plant omega-3 fatty acids" that are "essential for brain and heart health", pistachios, which are full of "fibre and antioxidants". He then finishes off with some blueberries, which are also high in antioxidants.
