Kerry Katona has shared her rage at a group of boys who bullied her son, calling herself a lioness and admitting that she tried to confront them.

The Atomic Kitten singer’s 10-year-old son Max was left with a black eye recently when some older boys from a secondary school began making cruel comments to him and then elbowed him in the eye on his walk to school.

Appearing on This Morning, Katona said: “I don’t think he was targeted because he was him or because I’m his mum. I hope he wasn’t targeted.

“I was heartbroken, I kept thinking I know what my son’s like, he can be quite shy around people he doesn’t know. The fact that he was around older boys, he was probably thinking ‘I want to be like that’.

“My poor little boy, he’s 10 years of age and these boys are in high school.”

Katona admitted that she had been furious with the older boys and struggled with how best to deal with the incident.

She said: “I’ll be honest, I wanted to rip their heads off. Any parent, you find out somebody’s done any kind of harm to your child, as a parent your back goes up and you want to put your hands round their neck.

“Obviously I wouldn’t do that, violence doesn’t solve violence at all. Once I calmed down a little bit I spoke to the school and they reported it to the high school.”

Sharing what her plan of action had been, she said: “I wasn’t going to do any harm to them, but my plan was to find the boys and ask them to take me to their parents’ house.

“I was going to take a picture of them and send the picture into the high school for them to deal with it. I couldn’t find the boys so I took a picture of my son’s black eye into school and they said they were going to address it in assembly but the fact that Max didn’t know who the boys were, there’s not much anyone can do.

“It could have been so much worse, he could have lost his eye.”

Katona, who also has three daughters, said that she had been tempted to take it further: “At one point, I wanted to call the police and report it, because it is an assault. I am a lioness.

“I took a step back and thought that’s not going to help them. If they’ve got a bit of a record, is that going to help them overcome what they’re doing bullying people?”
