'I'm So Sorry': Elton John Cuts Auckland Concert Short After Losing Voice

English singer Elton John was forced to cut his February 16 Auckland concert short after he lost his voice during the performance.

The 72-year-old, who had earlier told the crowd he’d been diagnosed with pneumonia but still wanted to push ahead with the show, eventually walked off the stage after his voice became audibly hoarse.

“I’ve lost my voice, I’m so sorry,” a visibly upset John can be heard saying to the crowd in this video.

The audience applauded the songwriter and pianist as he exited.

John later tweeted : “I want to thank everyone who attended the #EltonFarewellTour gig in Auckland tonight. I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia earlier today, but I was determined to give you the best show humanly possible. I played and sang my heart out, until my voice could sing no more. I’m disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave it all I had. Thank you so much for your extraordinary support and all the love you showed me during tonight’s performance. I am eternally grateful. Love, Elton xx”.

The incident was met with support from fans, some of whom congratulated John on performing with pneumonia.

“The fact you continued to push through and sing (and sing incredibly) even when you couldn’t talk is just phenomenal,” one fan tweeted the singer.
