'I'm a stylist – here's my go-to outfit for being chic and comfy on the plane'
Even if you're not flying first class, there are ways to travel in style.
How, you may ask? By dressing the part, of course! So you'll be pleased to know that a stylist has shared their top tips for being both fashionable and functional on the plane.
Erika Dwyer claims being chic and comfortable all comes down to what clothes you wear – and has a different outfit for each type of flight. For short haul journeys that take less than four hours, she believes you can get away with jeans.
While these aren't the stretchiest when you're sitting down, they do allow you to rush off the plane and enjoy the rest of the day without getting changed. They probably won't work for longer trips, though.
For slightly longer flights that are less than eight hours in length, Erika suggested that you make "comfort a little more of a priority". She leans towards trousers that are made of "sweatpant material".
You can opt for bottoms that are baggy and pleated to give a "dressed up" look, then style them with a loose-fitted jumper and trainers for added comfort.
Erika recommends switching things up again if you're going long haul, where "tight" and "stretchy" garments are a must. It may seem strange not to go with a baggier fit, but apparently this can aid circulation.
The fashionista explained: "I don't know the exact science behind it but it has to do with your circulation. There's a reason why people wear compression socks for long flights, and the same theory applies with just wearing tight [and stretchy] clothes. If you are wearing super baggy clothes or sandals, you may swell, and I personally don't want that to happen."
For optimum conditions, Erika picks garments that are "just as comfortable as loungewear" but offer a "little bit of compression". To stay super cosy on board, she then throws on an oversized hoodie that she can sleep in and stay warm.
