‘Immortus’ Solar-Powered Sports Car Inspired By Post-Apocalyptic Movies

The ‘Immortus’ sports car runs on solar power, with a design that was inspired by the post-apocalyptic world portrayed in movies like Mad Max.

Australian electric vehicle startup EVX is working with researchers at Swinburne University of Technology to build the car.

“The ability to run on the power of the sun and store the energy for later use make it a car of practically infinite endurance. As long as the sun shines the Immortus lives..” says EVX’s website.

The car operates as a normal eco-friendly electric vehicle that can be plugged in and charged, but also boasts solar panels on the roof so that the power can be topped up by the sun’s rays while driving.

The idea is to make drivers totally independent, so that they don’t need to reply or charging stations or certain environmental conditions.

According to its creators, the sports car will be able to do 0-60mph in 7 seconds and has a combined battery and solar range of 550km.

Co-Founder and CEO of EVX, Barry Nguyen, said: “Without government funding so far, we have made significant progress in our R&D and getting closer to turn our ambitious vision into a reality. With the strong leadership of Dr Clint Steele, we have succeeded in keeping our approach lean through working with final year engineering students and new graduate engineers. ”

The Immortus is still only at the concept stage for now but a prototype is expected to go on display in November.
