Impatient elephant sneaks under train barrier after getting tired of waiting

A clever elephant showed a blatant disregard for the rules when it lifted up a railway barrier to cross some tracks in India.

While more rule-abiding commuters would have to wait until a train had actually passed, this impatient elephant was clearly in a hurry.

It got a taste of what frustrated motorists have to put up whenever a train barrier goes down for what can seem like an eternity and grew tired of waiting.

The big-eared trespasser was captured on camera lifting up its first obstacle with its trunk, paying no attention to a STOP warning sign,  before carefully stepping over the barrier on the opposite side and continuing its journey.

“The elephant carefully lifted the barrier with his trunk,” explained stunned witness Roni Chowdhury.

“But even after crossing the barrier, the elephant dropped the barrier back in its place very cautiously.”

The unusual incident took place at a crossing just outside the Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary in India’s West Bengal state.

Eyewitnesses said the elephant made several attempts to cross the tracks but was foiled by a metal fence, eventually resorting to navigating the barriers.
